Reidun Pommeresche
Reidun Pommeresche works with research and outreach at the Norwegian Centre for Organic Agriculture (NORSØK). She is an invertebrate ecologist focusing on agricultural soils and soil health.
They emphasise that food production is an interaction between people, plants, agronomy, and the life in the soil - always in the context of soil and climate. They are passionate about topsoil as an ecosystem and about practical soil health.
Reidun aims to inspire more people to dig into their own soil and explore how management affects plant roots and soil life. By looking, smelling, and feeling the soil, you can assess soil structure and aeration, see whether soil organisms are breaking down plant residues, and whether earthworms and microbial life are helping build biological soil structure.
Reidun encourages the use of Jordlappen - a free booklet with ten simple checkpoints for assessing soil quality and soil health that anyone can use on their own land. They share tips on how to identify soil type, estimate the soil’s carbon bank, and choose measures that support soil health and create more resilient soil.
