Joshua Cabell
Joshua Cabell has a broad background, with a BA in Environmental Studies from the University of Vermont (USA), an MSc in Agroecology from NMBU, and (soon) a PhD from NMBU, where they have explored the potential of composting marine residual materials, and they have also completed several permaculture courses. Joshua believes our food system should mimic ecosystems far more than it does today, and that one key is making better use of nutrients and resources.
Composting is a method that both recycles nutrients and builds soil health by adding carbon and beneficial organisms to the soil. It can be done at any scale - from a small backyard pile to many thousands of cubic metres - and can be as simple or as advanced as desired. Compost can also contribute to improved food security and preparedness by reducing dependence on imported fertiliser products. Joshua works at the Norwegian Centre for Organic Agriculture (NORSØK) and is based at Kvithammer in Trøndelag.
